The seigniorial families installed in this territory juggled between the bishop of Feltre and the prince-bishop of Trento, not without a certain amount of military pressure from the city lords of the Veneto region (Scaligeri, Carraresi). During the 15th century the authority of the Habsburgs asserted itself in Valsugana.

"In the late 20th century, the narrative of universalization of Western liberal democratic modernity dominated the international scene. A few decades later, a new plurality of narratives has emerged, reflecting both a global redistribution of geopolitical power and deep political transformation within Western liberal societies. Each of the new, or most often reinvented, narratives combines stories of the past with understandings of the present and attractive visions of the future. They constitute "narratives of the global", i.e. macro-stories that actors generate to make sense of their place in global integration and development and use to formulate a call for action or a specific agenda. Although competing narratives have always existed in world politics, today's narrative plurality has become increasingly salient and problematic, challenging the possibility of global regulation of fundamental issues-such as health, energy and climate change-in an era marked by planet-wide cascading interdependences. Understanding this challenge entails first to map the main narratives that are at play in the growing contestation of the present global order. It also implies a historically informed discussion of the key features of narratives of the global: the focus of this volume is to provide genealogies of the content of a set of narratives that have in common sweeping stories speaking to challenges and experiences of global modernity, and to illuminate the roles and impacts that agents acting on their basis have had in world politics"--

Lorsque Donald Trump refuse de quitter la Maison-Blanche et tourne le dos à l'histoire de son pays, il fait peser une menace sur la démocratie américaine. La tradition de transfert ordonné du pouvoir trouve ses origines dans la figure de George Washington qui, en choisissant de se retirer volontairement au terme de son second mandat, instaura un précèdent.Parmi ses successeurs, seul Franklin D. Roosevelt passa plus de huit ans à la tête de l'exécutif (1933-1945) ; en vigueur depuis 1951, le vingt-deuxième amendement interdit désormais d'effectuer plus de deux mandats. Le retrait de Washington donna également naissance à la figure de l'ancien président, dont les contours se sont dessinés au fil du temps : après son discours d'adieu, il doit se dessaisir de ses archives, publier ses mémoires, laisser gouverner ses successeurs et répondre favorablement à leurs sollicitations quand il faut manifester l'unité de la nation.Certains anciens présidents s'illustrèrent par une retraite longue et féconde : John Quincy Adams combattit l'esclavage à la Chambre des représentants ; William Howard Taft présida la Cour suprême de 1921 à 1930 ; Jimmy Carter s'engagea dans l'action humanitaire après sa défaite de 1980. En refusant de rendre le pouvoir sans y être contraint, Donald Trump a bouleversé tous les précédents et rompu avec une tradition politique américaine vieille de plus de deux siècles.
